    Chicago: Food, Culture & More

It was in 1876 when the city of Chicago - Opens a dialog was first referred to as “The Windy City” and the nickname stuck. However, today that could easily be changed to “The Capital of Food”, due to its abundance of gastronomic offerings. In addition, as the third most populous city in the U.S., Chicago is a cultural melting pot with a rich appreciation of the arts and ethnic heritage that abounds throughout its 178 neighborhoods.

Originating in Chicago, be sure to try a beef sandwich.

Presently, Chicago is experiencing some new popularity through Hulu’s scripted series, “The Bear.” Recently renewed for its third season, “The Bear” follows award-winning chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto as he returns to Chicago to keep his deceased brother’s chaotic Italian beef sandwich shop alive. The entire series is shot in Chicago and it is inspired by the historic Mr. Beef sandwich shop, where the series pilot was produced. When you visit this authentic Chicago institution, be sure to get your beef sandwiches dipped – and to make the experience even richer, ask for your sandwiches to include cheese and to “make it juicy.” Some quick series factoids: First, “The Bear” is a shortened nickname of the Berzatto's last name. Second, the series' creator is a close friend of Chris Zucchero, whose father founded Mr. Beef.
