More About Austin
Austin’s music scene is off the charts! There are hundreds of live music venues, with the greatest concentration of venues downtown near Sixth Street, but it doesn’t stop there – talent can be seen and heard all over Austin, with musicians performing anywhere from concert halls to clubs, coffeehouses to taquerias, festivals to sporting events, honky-tonks and more.
The city is also known for its great outdoors, offering various recreational opportunities within Zilker Metropolitan Park, including hiking and biking trails, swimming holes and lakes perfect for paddling and kayaking, and more than 300 sport climbing routes within the nearby Reimers Ranch Park for those who enjoy climbing and bouldering. With an average temperature of 68 degrees and 300 days of sunshine, visitors feel inspired to be active and spend more time outside. This makes Austin a year-round playground for outdoor enthusiasts, often recognized as one of the country's fittest cities.
The history of Austin can be admired through various architecture, monuments, and museums throughout the city. As well as legendary spots such as Barton Springs Pool fed from underground springs once believed to have spiritual healing powers, and The Broken Spoke, an authentic honky-tonk where Dolly Parton, George Strait, and Willie Nelson have performed.

General Safety Tips: By taking a few simple security precautions before and during your vacation, you can help ensure that you, your traveling companions, and your valuables are as safe and secure as possible.
- To make it easier to replace your passport if it’s lost or stolen, in addition to your passport, take a photocopy of your passport information page (keeping it separate from your actual passport).
- Carry only a limited amount of cash, just enough for gratuities and incidental purchases. Major credit cards are widely accepted and can be replaced if lost or stolen.
- Always lock your hotel room door (including patio and balcony door on any level of the building) and use the peephole before opening the door.
- Store your valuables (such as cash, credit cards and airline tickets) in the hotel’s in-room safe or front desk safety deposit box.
- If you must carry valuables on your person, do so in a pouch or money belt concealed under your clothing. Purses and backpacks can be easy targets for thieves.
