Alesund is a port town on the west coast of Norway, at the entrance to the Geirangerfjord. It’s known for the art nouveau architectural style in which most of the town was rebuilt after a fire in 1904, as documented at the Jugendstilsenteret museum. There are panoramic views of Ålesund’s architecture, the surrounding archipelago, and fjords from the Mount Aksla lookout.

Tromso is a town in northern Norway, the capital of Troms County. Tromsø is located on the island of Tromsoy off the northwestern coast of mainland Norway, in the Norwegian Sea. It is the largest Norwegian town north of the Arctic Circle. Troms County includes the adjacent mainland; Tromsoy Island is linked to the mainland by a bridge. As the county seat, Tromsø is the administrative, communications, cultural, and educational center of northern Norway. It is also a fishing port with fish-processing industries. Other industries include shipbuilding, brewing, prefabricated houses, high technology, and tourism. The town is served by an airport and is a starting point and support base for arctic expeditions. A meteorological station, an institute studying the aurora borealis, or northern lights, and the University of Tromsø (founded in 1968) are all located in Tromso. Tromso was founded in the mid-13th century and granted a town charter in 1794. The Norwegian government was based in Tromsø for a short period during World War II (1939-1945). The modern Tromsdal Church, built in 1965, is known as the “Cathedral of the Arctic;” there is also a wooden cathedral (1861) in the center of the town. Tromso Museum contains an aquarium and is devoted to natural history and the history and culture of the Saami (Lapp).

Narvik is a Northern Norwegian town with a population of 19,000. It is located at the head of Vestfjorden/Ofotfjorden, close to the Swedish border.Narvik celebrated its centenary in 2002. It was founded when the Swedish iron ore company LKAB was looking for a transhipment harbour for the iron ore excavated in Kiruna’s mines. A railway was built from Kiruna to Narvik to carry the iron ore to an ice-free harbour. The early name of the town was Victoriahamn, but was later changed to Narvik which was the name of a local bay.Narvik is also known for the battles that took place here during World War II. German forces invaded Narvik on the 9th of April 1940. Narvik was important to the Germans because of the iron ore which they used in the weapon industry. In the days following April 9th British Naval ships sailed into the fjord and fierce sea battles were carried out in the harbour and nearby fjords. This resulted in 40 vessels being sunk both in the port basin and in the fjords. Among them were 2 Norwegian armoured cruisers, and 2 British and 10 German destroyers, giving a serious blow to Hitler’s Naval force.On May 28th 1940 the Allied Forces (Norwegians, British, French and Polish) forced the Germans out of Narvik, driving them, with their backs against the wall, up the mountains towards the Swedish border. This is known as the first Allied victory over Nazi Germany during World War II.Unfortunately, events in France in May 1940 caused the Allied Headquarters to withdraw their troops from Narvik, giving the Germans space to re-enter and this time occupy Narvik. Narvik remained occupied till the end of the war.

Haugesund is a young and vibrant town with roots dating back to Viking times. It was the Viking, Harald the Fair-haired, who united Norway as a kingdom. To commemorate his achievement, Norway’s national monument, Haraldshaugen, was erected just north of Haugesund. As with the Vikings, seafaring, and trade symbolizes this coastal region. It was the plentiful shoals of herring along the rugged coastline that led to the development of Haugesund as an important hub for fish export and later as Norway’s leading shipbuilding center. Today, Haugesund is one of Norway’s most popular congress and festival towns. First-class hotels and restaurants combined with a town center hosting several hundred shops and a diverse cultural life that caters to the most demanding tastes create a thriving dynamic region. For pleasure boats, Haugesund is a popular guest harbor where it is possible to sail right into the heart of the town, while at the same time, it is only a few minutes from the wild and scenic Haugalandet countryside.

The Verandah: Steakhouse at The Verandah restaurant offers a sublime experience, whether it's lunch or dinner. Showcasing specialties such as prime USDA grain-finished New York strip steak and Alaskan king crab, alongside dishes celebrating British origin such as Salt Marsh lamb rack, as well as renowned Wagyu beef from farther afield. The menu is a celebration of the fine provenance of the US, British Isles and Australia. The Verandah takes design inspiration from the original Verandah Grill on board Queen Mary.
